The steep hillside site was previously excavated to fifteen feet below street level forming a platform with spectacular views of the ocean to the east, north and west. The client wanted to have parking, living and the master suite at the highest level with children below. As a result of the topography, vehicular and pedestrian access is via a ramped bridge. View and favorable orientation coincide, leading to the adopted staggered angle configuration of the plan. Sun protection is obtained through the overhanging curved profile of the roof slab and through the projections of the upper floor over the lower floor. A wind-protected solarium occupies the roof level.
