A complete renovation of a house in the Bernal Heights district of San Francisco reconfigured a warren of rooms to yield an efficient plan with a new kitchen open to a top-lit great room and a generous master suite.  A new stairway connects to a ground level family room and features a screen milled from the Douglas fir ceiling joists removed from the original house.   The house is all-electric with heat recovery ventilation and zero VOC finishes.
