Two family house designed for a steep hillside site in Corona Heights, San Francisco. The “rock houses” are two townhouse units carved into a steep hillside in the Corona Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. Each unit has three bedrooms and a dramatic living space with views over the city. A small, shared elevator serves the units, while each also has an entry directly from the street. With seven distinct levels, the project required careful compliance with the height and area limits of the building code. Demolition of an existing derelict building on the site required discretionary review by the Planning Commission. The development was begun as a speculative project by Adele Santos, but was sold after the building permit was obtained to a contractor/developer who constructed and sold the units.
