Located on a tight site in the Tsukasa-cho section of Tokyo, his eight story office building centers on an atrium designed as the major public and private space within the building. The atrium is divided diagonally by a glass and steel stair which creates a private garden-like space with private sitting areas and encloses a public lobby with a light transmitting screen. The lobby is designed to allow the public to pass through its lower level, connecting two parallel streets. The stair connects the office spaces to a water garden on the roof designed in collaboration with artist Alice Aycock. The office space is designed to include advanced communication technologies, while providing flexible space with a high degree of amenity for the users. The street elevations of the building incorporate daylight-reflecting light shelves with integral artificial lighting giving the building a sculpted, transparent appearance.
